“I still love you… Why, Cara? Why?… Don’t leave… I still love you… Why?… I love you… Always you…”
Her body was shaking and she was panting. The world was trembling. No, she thought. Someone was shaking her.
“Cara, baby. Wake up.”
She sat up straight, gasping for breath. Sweats formed on her forehead and she felt dizzy. A hand was soothing her arm and whispering comforting words in her ear.
“Cara, are you okay? You were whispering my brother’s name.” His brows furrowed.
“Water, Logan. Please.” Her voice seemed husky. Logan reached for the water beside the table and passed it to her. She gulped at it, trying to extinguish her blazing body.
He still loves me, she thought.
A wail erupted from the other side of the room. Cara turned to Logan and weakly smiled. “I’m fine. Go to sleep, baby. I’ll check Mason.” He nodded, but his eyes were enveloped with worry.
Cara stepped out of the bed and reached for the door. She gently closed it and slowly walked towards her son’s room.
She covered her mouth and sobbed silently as the never-ending thought consumed her.
He still loves me, she thought. God, help me. I still love him.
