My legs are shaking; they want to fall. I grit my teeth to hide the pain. I hold onto the street lamp pole for support. My body is hiding behind the long, metal pole. It’s still near sunset. People are still laughing, smiling and chatting on the street. I purse my lips and sigh.
Dark night comes, sweeping the light away. The moon is smiling above my head. I smile back and run away from the pole, towards the empty dark street. The chirping of the owls is the only scream, I can hear. The small light bulb of the single street lamp and the moon are the only lights I have.
I finally laugh. I finally smile. I finally show my true self, alone and delighted on this lonesome street.
