“Soft drinks, electronics, nutrient-free snacks — you can get all of those from a vending machine. But what type of vending machine is sorely needed but doesn’t yet exist? Share your automated retail fantasies with us!” – Daily Prompt
The price of the Feelings cost more this year, so I have to choose wisely. Two more persons to go. The lady inserts her bills and she presses “Happiness”. It fits her; the gloominess of her face is very obvious. I hear her sigh. The machine beeps and dispenses a yellow pill. The lady snatches the pill and swallows it without water. Very desperate.
The man before me inserts his bills. He presses “Sensitivity” and the machine beeps before dispensing a white pill. Perhaps this man steps on everybody’s foot. He puts it in his mouth and swallows it with the help of water. He moves to the side.
Before I put my bills in the slot, a finger touch my shoulder and I turn around. “Mister, what are you going to choose?” The old lady asks. It seems personal, but I know that nothing will be kept secret. “I’m going for balance, Miss.”
Her eyes beam confusion. “There’s no balance there, Mister. What are you going to do?” I shrug. “Get one of everything.”
The old lady smile. “You might overdose.” Annoyance flows in my veins. “What are you trying to imply, Miss?”
“That you’re not going to get what you need. Like air, you’re looking for something very invisible, but can be temporarily felt. A piece of advice, Sir, choose carefully as that pill will either help you to grow or wither. The outcome of both will prove to you that what you’re looking for is impossible. It’s only a word, Mister.”
I sigh loud and annoyed. I turn around and dispense my bills. I’m about to choose “Tough” when the old lady’s words invade my mind. After contemplating for several seconds, I hover my finger on the silver button and press “Clarity.”
