The vibrancy of laughter – a hidden mask of a troubled present.

Rivers crawl to my cheeks out of the spasms of my stomach. It is a rare occurrence of paradise.

You are fine; at least from the doctors. No more sanitized scents and IVs – no more rushed footsteps after a loud, consistent machine beats.

“Where do you want to be?”

Despising the question when there is an obvious answer. I shake my head from your question.

Abruptly, you stiffen and I follow.

I swallow hard.

“Who are you?”

Thundering heartbeats; I close my eyelids – here we are, again.

“Your wife.”
