let’s burn this book.

Wings
by Matthew Burgos

Far from the loose strings of your unabashed words, I rose above the flamed skies and open my old wings. I thought the distilling spirit within my lungs would grow fonder each passing day, but it caught the cold winds of the winter season, instead. Our once intertwined fingers became strangers hoping for a reunion that never came – or was I the only one thinking about this?

We had not yet reached the 300th page and we were already spiraling down into the conclusion – without a sequel [no surprises there].

I longed to ask you how to keep the interest with each other’s movements burning and living, but you shut me out with your alcohol and cigarette mixed breaths. If you would witness us from above, you would see two pretentious guardian angels with twisted heads.

I would not apologize if I was not able to satisfy you during our free feelings – a single role would not be able to run a whole play, remember that.
