The fine lines of his face’s features stood out as his eyebrows dipped from concentration. “He shows enthusiasm when we eat dinner,” he said. “I don’t understand how he got these grades.”
“John has always been like this since this semester started. I called you as soon as I knew you have to barge in. But he seems distracted all the time. Do you think there’s more than this…?” she asked with caution rather than hesitation.
“Are you suggesting my wife and I are the cause of his failures?” his jaw ticked as he gritted his teeth.
She held her chin high. “We both know you’ve always been this temperamental. If you just keep on taking your medicines…” He slammed his fist on her desk, creating a crack on the polished surface. She was unfazed by his sudden episode. He breathed through his teeth, slowly pulling his hand away from the table.
He kicked the chair out of his way as he turned to walk away. “I recommend you and your wife talk to your son before he completely destroys his career,” she said.
“You were the medicine, but you gave up. Since then, you’ve lost your right to tell me what to do,” he said. He slammed the door at his wake. She released her trembling breaths and closed her eyes.
